Brunswick VIA 3rd Annual Window Box/Planter Competition (01 May 2012)

It's time for the Window Box/Planter Competition among businesses in Downtown Brunswick.

This Summer 2012 will be the Village Improvement Association's Third Annual Window Box/Planter Competition among businesses on or near Maine/Pleasant Streets in Brunswick. Any live floral beautification that enhances the exterior appearance of your business will be eligible. Entries will be judged by a committee of five in mid-July.

The prizes are:

$250 for First Prize
$200 for Second Prize
And several non-monetary certificates awarded for Honorable Mentions
An added prize of $100 for Best New Entry will be awarded to a business which did not compete in 2010/2011

Jeff Hutchinson, Codes Enforcement Officer, reports that common sense rules prevail regarding keeping sidewalks passable and safe for pedestrians. Questions about rules can be directed to Jeff at 207-725-6651.

The Times • Record gave this competition considerable notice, and compliments poured in regarding last Summer's blooming of the Maine Street area, thanks to the addition of businesses' front window boxes andnplanters complementing VIA's traditional flowering medians.

BDA Celebratory Breakfast - May 24 (24 May 2012)

The BDA will be hosting a Celebratory Breakfast on Thursday, at 7:30 am at the Captain Daniel Stone Inn, 10 Water Street, Brunswick.

Please plan to join us for what will be a great celebration of a significant accomplishment for the BDA and for the Town of Brunswick.

Special Guest Speakers will include Laurie Lachance,
President and CEO of the Maine Development Foundation and Roxanne Eflin, Senior Program Director of the Maine Downtown Center.

The First Days of Summer celebration will take place June 18 – 23. This family-friendly event will be Brunswick’s official kick off to summer and will include specials, promotions, and in store activities and entertainment throughout each day during this week-long event. Saturday, the last day of the event, there will be a Sidewalk Sale as well as a Brunswick-wide Community Yard sale. Click here for the yard sale registration form.

Brunswick Community-Wide Yard Sale (23 Jun 2012)

Get ready for summer by cleaning out your closets.

As part of the Brunswick First Days of Summer Celebration, the Brunswick Downtown Association is sponsoring a community-wide yard sale that will be held Saturday, June 23rd 8 am to 2 pm.

Any residential property within Brunswick is invited to participate. Sale will be held, RAIN or SHINE, at homes throughout Brunswick.

A registration fee of $15 will be charged to yard sale participants. This money will be used by the BDA to pay for the planning and promotion of the event. The event will be promoted through posters, advertising in local publications, social media, and a detailed listing on the BDA website. In addition, handouts listing all yard sale participants will be available at the Visitor Center.

Residents interested in participating in the community-wide yard sale must register. You can do so online by clicking the 'Register' button on the left OR click here to print out and return a copy of the registration form:

Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival (18 Aug 2012)

Join us for the 5th Annual Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival on the sidewalks of Maine Street in Downtown Brunswick and on the Mall (green) from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, August 18.

This festival is designed to celebrate and foster an appreciation of the arts in downtown Brunswick and to showcase the town as a wonderful cultural destination. More than 90 artists' booths will feature painting, sculpture, mixed media, graphics and drawing, photography and fine crafts. Interactive demo artisans will set up on the mall.

Throughout the day there will be live music, theater and dance performances, performance artists, face painting, and art projects for kids and families.

Sample a world of cuisine at the 4th annual Taste of Brunswick food festival.

This year's event will take place September 15th and will feature dozens of the area’s finest restaurants and cafés, as well as entertainment by Maine bands.

A portion of the proceeds from the “Taste” will benefit the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program.

Advance tickets will be available online, as well as at area restaurants and businesses. Food tickets will be sold in $1 increments at the event.

Bring your family and friends, and join us, rain or shine. No pets or coolers, please.
